The Crucible of Silence
My life was filled with everything that I had ever wanted ―a thoughtful husband, a terrific daughter, and a fulfilling career. Over the course of the last few years of our marriage, what had begun with an array of my husband's personal problems escalated into a horrifying maternal trauma. One unusually cold fall night, I discovered that the man I'd married was not who I thought he was ― but had been secretly sexually abusing our daughter.
In Part One of my memoir, I take the mask off the deeply disguised familial child sexual abuser. The face that is revealed is one of a person who lives a normal, law-abiding life and a secret one ― much like that of my college professor ex-husband. There is an unacknowledged secondary victim in this crime ― the mother and wife ― who will suffer in silence as she sets in motion the prosecution of her husband.
